it sounds better to me if you play an A minor in lieu of an A, but then again, it is just power chords.

of course its played "in chords"
Just ignore the fact that they are written in blue letters and ignore ultimate-guitar's advise on how to play them.
Those are simple power chords.
No matter if it's a minor or A, it's simply an A played as a power chord which means played like below

therefore this tab is pretty accurate.
